PC DMIS Offline programming for Romer

PC-Dmis Cad 4.3 MR1

I know this part of the forum is for CMM but there is only one person on the portable forum so I dont think I would get much help there.
I want to write a program offline for our new Romer arm. I only have PC Dmis Cad 4.3 on my computer. We have PC Dmis Portable on the computer where the arm is located. So basically what I think I need to do is get the Probe files for the arm from the pc that runs the portable software and put those files on my pc at my desk. That way I won’t get errors when I try to right a program offline. I will be able to call up the Romer probe offline. Can this be done, or do I need to install the Portable software on my pc? If it can be done can anyone tell me how to do it?

  • There aren't any issues in doing that at all Matt. In fact, that is the way I prefer to do it on my parts just because I'm not a big fan of letting PC-DMIS align itself using my pointcloud. I do it when I have to, but, I prefer doing my contact measurements first to be sure I'm at least using my datums.

Just a side note for you, if you're planning to use the scanner for RE for model creation or use in any other CAD environment, PC-DMIS cannot export a good pointcloud for use in something like Rapidform or Geomagic. We are actually finding this out here now, that on top of the third party pointcloud manipulation software we expected to purchase, we also have to purchase an additional plugin for collection of the data from our scanner. For some reason, pointclouds exported from PC-DMIS show up missing huge chunks of data when imported into any of the reverse engineering packages. So, just so your company isn't caught off guard, PC-DMIS is only useful for inspection purposes where the pointcloud is concerned.
