Where is a good place to find probes for a romer

Without sounding like too much of a kiss-up, one of the best places is actually hexagonstore.com. As long as you can afford a few weeks of lead time and have a credit card to pay, this is the best place I have found. Their prices are reasonable but if you have to use a company PO the prices nearly quadruple! Ridiculous, but if you can pay "cash" you won't find a better source, in my experience.

Renishaw is always a good source too, but they don't have the exact same stylii as Romer OEM. We had some "similar" units made (because the price was decent with company PO), but they have a minimum quantity that made it a pretty big pill to swallow. There are any number of other stylus suppliers out there that can probably get the job done, but you should be a little careful with some of them (premium number one, if you get my drift...)

Regarding a smaller tip, be careful with this, too. There is a reason that Romer doesn't offer an OEM stylus smaller than 3mm and that reason is deflection. The shank on a stylus smaller than 3mm is subject to deflection under probing pressure. To combat this, I bought a sharp point probe for the small lands, etc., but that requires an entirely new "probe", not just the stylus. Cost $600 new.

    Hope that helps -
