Woes of Leapfrog...

I have just recently (13 Oct 2011) updated to 2011 pc-dimis and 7.1.5 WinRDS on our 5124-227 Infinite Arm. I am for the first time attempting a 'leapfrog' and cannot get it to function appropriately. After multiple failures with the 'actual' part (which is extremely cumbersome to relocate around) I set up a "test" specimen on the granite table to which we typically have the arm attached to. This specimen is a multiple compound cut square tube and plate weldment. At this point I am NOT attempting to get actual dimensional checks, I am simply attempting to get the leapfrog to WORK. As the machine / laptop is NOT connected to the local network (and various other stall points) I cannot easily post the code.

I can get the initial alignment (plane, line, point) and 'one hit' measure the diameter of several of the holes in the upper plate of this item. I then select three of these holes as my leapfrog alignment point groups. Set the probe comp OFF...start leapfrog...measure each feature five times per....then I rotate the part on the table about 90 degrees....select OK for re-positioning....re-measure each of the initial points (5 times per again)...accept the calculated measurement results...OK to insert leapfrog command...OK to close dialog box. Now I attempt to 1) measure another 'one hit' hole diameter and get "Hit Out Of Range" error. Then, I attempt to create a new plane entity and get the same message on the first hit to start defining the plane.

What am I doing WRONG???

  • Which Leap Frog option are you using? (3 points, 3 spheres, 3 point sets)

The Hit out of range is because the Any Order Tolerance in Set Up(F5) has a value. Enter Set Up(F5) and set it to zero.

When using leapfrog we should always move the measuring device not the part. Moving the part could affect pitch and yaw of part making it hard to get a good bestfit with the leap frog.

Leap Frog should not require probe comp to be disabled.
