reporting

i cant seem to figure out how to get pcdmis to report my measured numbers it is beyond my level of knowledge .
  • Brian,

Based on some of his other posts, he has been. That said, his profile states he's using Version 3.0.
That's pretty old considering I started using PC-DMIS back in 2000 and I think that was what came on the machine.

    QCINSP38,

I've read some of your posts. Brian nailed it, you need more training.
Perhaps some one on one time at a machine. There's lots of people out there that offer that service, I think Hexagon does too.
Without knowing for certain what version you have, it's hard to tell you how to create dimensions for reporting your results.
The drop down menus have moved in recent upgrades.
It's darned near impossible to train you via the internet. Especially since most who post here have regular jobs.
Brian is a Hexagon employee, and I'd bet he doesn't have the time (or energy) to attempt to do this via the forum.

As I asked in a different thread, can you post some of your code?
Perhaps we can give you some guidance that will help the lightbulb come on.

    John

(All opinion, but based in experience.)
  • INSERT>DIMENSION>LOCATION for a clue, maybe get you started, make sure you're looking at a report screen or your edit window. TRY posting some code. Do you know how?

  • yes i have been to the almost useless training in irving texas at hexagon metrology given by Colin and told him while in the class that this was not understanding and you see where we are . i was told by colin to come here and ask questions but i see that is a mistake . thank you.

While it's been a few years, I have been to Hexagon's training. Their classes are decent, provided you have some inspection (a lot) background and good computer skills.
They sometimes have to tailor the classes to the lowest skill level in the class and that can hurt. To some degree it is their fault, but also the fault of companies that buy a CMM and think it is a magical measuring machine. I have no problem openly critiquing Hexagon, but not when people expect to put a part on a machine and get numbers. Just ask Brian G., Don Ruggeri, and Josh Carpenter. Smiley This forum is merely a supplement to the training. Most of us that post are doing it to assist others, but we can't train you. We have full time jobs.
Go back and read some of the replies in the threads you've started. We (me and others) have asked for some more info (code) in order to help you. Haven't seen it yet.
My suggestion is to call Hexagon's support line. As long as your SMA is current, they can help. Perhaps Colin could help you too.
There are also some forum members that offer one on one training. That might be a good route.
I sent a message to Brian, but it appears he hasn't been on the forum today. He's probably doing his job....

Sorry if I sound like a pompous jerk.
    Good luck.

  • i have used faro with the faro software and had no problem but pcdmis is entirely unique creature in that is not user friendly and the support from hexagon and hartwig that i was told i would get and what i have recieved has been 180 degrees from each other to begin i think this is a big part of the problem they sent me to class the last week in feb. we did not recieve our arm until march 20. so for several weeks i had nothing to use or practice with so it does seem to me that this foriegn to me i may be asking beginner questions but this forum is a last resort because i am not getting the support from hartwig or hexagon i have yet to here from Colin Simithraaratchy i emailed with no response i am sorry for wasting everyones time all i can say is if you dont have the time to respond then dont i understand. i hope i dont offend anyone i at my last rope and about ready to give up and put this piece of equipment up and never use it because myself and the other gentlemen who went to the pcdmis portable training can not figure this this thing out.
  • QCINSP38,

Hang in there. There are many good people who assist on this forum. I know that it can be a struggle at first. I went the opposite way that you did.

I ended up at company that used the "wonderful" faro software. I had come from pcdmis, and had to step into a software that did not make sense, was illogical and primitive. I survived.

Pcdmis may have its' quirks, but is far supperior to the faro product (in my opinion).

    My 2 cents worth.

I understand to some level. I've PM'ed two people here that are Hexagon employees asking them to look at your threads.
I've used PC-DMIS for 12 years. Prior to that I had only used one other CMM (Numerex), Can't remember the software, but it was the early 1990s. My training was on the fly via the programmer at that job.
Problem here is, it's very hard to answer vague questions. When every question you ask is vague, it leads people to believe you don't have training.
Have you tried F1 (Help file)? You really need to call Hexagon support @ 1-800-343-7933 and get someone there to help you. Pester the crap out of them. You are paying for and SMA that gives you the right to support.
Hopefully Brian, Don or Josh that I mentioned in a previous post will read this thread and contact you.
  • QCINSP38:

I appreciate your candid opinions of our training course.

Sadly, when there is an email address as cumbersome as mine, it can severely impediment contact. As I am emailing you from the road, please try me @ Colin.simithraaratchy@hexagonmetrology.com . I'm surprised that I haven't heard from you already, since you can spell my name!

Since you haven't posted your name, your company, your part drawing, or any PCDMIS code, it will be very difficult for myself or any other of the helpful forum denizens to assist you. In lieu of caustic comments, may I suggest, as a minimum, that you add in:

    Your expected result
    Your actual result
A picture of the part (if possible)
A cut/paste of the PCDMIS code

Before you contact anybody else via email, forum, or phone, please review Lab 6b, 7a, 7b, and the Help Menu article for "Location Dimension".

    Talk to you shortly.
