Brand new machine, Brand new user, Reversed Z Axis, X and Y axis switched.

Thank you all in advance for help,

We just purchased our first CMM system, and went to the class. After we finnally got some set up and programming bugs worked out with tech support, we realized that our axes were all going different directions than the on class machines and the workbook diagrams were going.

Z+ is down, Z- is up
X+ is out X- is in
Y- is right Y+ is left

I've done my best to look in the HELP section, but haven't seen any related topics.

  • What type of machine is this?

Stupid question, but how do you know Z+ is down? How do you know X+ is out? and what do you mean 'OUT'?

I am not trying to be sarcastic, please bear with me, but what are you reading when you determine these directions?

That's true. There IS a bunch of settings within Pcdmis (at least for MY BS controller) where it appears that you can change this. I'm not talking about the F5 CAD/Machine setup either. Under EDIT ~ PREFERENCES ~ MACHINE INTERFACE SETUP, there is a tab called AXIS and it appears that you can change the machine 'default' axis to what you want them to be. I've never messed with them, but maybe, JUST maybe........

WARNING! The help file says that if you change those axis settings (make X to Y for example) then your table map will be useless and you will not be in calibration anymore.
