Brand new machine, Brand new user, Reversed Z Axis, X and Y axis switched.

Thank you all in advance for help,

We just purchased our first CMM system, and went to the class. After we finnally got some set up and programming bugs worked out with tech support, we realized that our axes were all going different directions than the on class machines and the workbook diagrams were going.

Z+ is down, Z- is up
X+ is out X- is in
Y- is right Y+ is left

I've done my best to look in the HELP section, but haven't seen any related topics.
  • I just notice something! Looking at RFR Kevin's additional information, this machine is a ROMER 7525 SI.
I don't know much about arms, but isn't the coordinate system extremely dependent on the alignment????

RER Kevin, are you using a Romer portable arm or are you using a CMM?

Everyone is calling it a CMM...Yes it is a Portable arm.
I was having the reversed axis issue, and had the other person I went to class with verify the issue. I went to lunch and came back and it was fixed, and no one touched a thing!!! I guess its a non-issue now. Sorry to waste everyones time. This is our first machine and (probably like everyone else) we are a bit overwhelmed with it. Somehow the problem got solved.....
    Thanks people!

Umm... Problems like that don't just fix themselves. You have to be doing something different. Again, sounds to me like some type of alignment issues.
Perhaps Josh (who I believe has Romer Arm experience) could shed some light on the machine coordinate system for an arm versus that of a standard CMM.

If by "experience" you mean "walking past one every day", then yes I have quite a bit of that.

Unfortunately I have never actually used one. Yet. Soon.

But there is a 99% chance that this was an alignment issue...

Well, you posted it in the "PC-DMIS for CMMs" section instead of the Portable section found here: http://www.pcdmisforum.com/forumdisplay.php?5-PC-DMIS-Portable

Please add to this thread (which I'm moving there) if you experience this problem again.

I'm betting it's related to the direction the hits were taking for a rotation feature in the alignment.
    Code would help us know.
  • or somebody has Leveled to Cylinder that faces opposite in the direction they thought?
  • Sorry for the misplacement of the thread. Thank you all for your help.
  • hahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
