Using PC DMIS that was set up for CMM with a Romer

I have been tasked with setting up a Romer with existing software that currently runs a CMM. Software PC-DMIS V. 4.2 MR1. I have set the Romer up, calibrated it using its utility feature (not with PC-DMIS) and now I need to know how to get PC-DMIS to recognize that there is a Romer attached. The CMM attaches through COM port 1 but the Romer has a USB connection. Do I need to uninstall and reinstall? Or can I manipulate the current version to "know" that there is a Romer attached....? Any and all help is appreciated.....
  • One thing I can't seem to find is if when I reinstall with the Romer Portlock, will PC-DMIS auto recognize the Romer or will I have to go into config and tell it where to look? If I have to tell it where to look, all I have ever seen is COM ports, this Romer is USB and the comp isn't Bluetooth ready so that is off the table... Thanks!

1-install WinRDS or RDS dependig of your arm type (Cimcore / Romer)
2-load the latest armspecs data (calbration / compensation / error map etc)
    3-install pcdmis
  • Where do I find the latest armspecs data? Sorry, I don't even know what that is...
  • OK, so I have uninstalled and reinstalled. The computer now recognizes the Romer... It now needs its probe files. I have all that on a flashdrive, where do I put them... What is the file path...? Hopefully I am close to having this done...
  • Loading Armspecs in WinRDS 4.1 or higher.

In this new version you can not just copy the folders over manually you must follow this procedure.

    1. Power the Arm off and insert the Armspecs Floppy disk.
    2. Open the CimCore Arm Utilities short cut on your desktop.
    3. Cancel the error message.
    4. Select the Config button then the Armspecs Tab.
    5. Point the 3 1/2 floppy drive or what ever location you have the Armdata and Armdata.s6x folders located.
    * DO NOT SELECT THE ARMDATA FOLDER ONLY POINT TO THE LOCATION IT IS STORED IN.
    6. Select OK once then select OK a second time for the Armdata.S6X folder.

Once this is complete you can power the Arm on to connect.

Note: Just change floppy disk to flash drive, cimcore arm utilities to winrds or rds depending of your software
  • I tried to select ARMDATA.S6X the second time and it woulnd't let me. PC-DMIS only seems to have probe data for two probes and both are ball probes and I need the scanning probes installed too... Everything worked up until the last selection... I think it may be because there are no .PRB files on the flashdrive... Could that be it?

.PRB files are used only for pcdmis. You have to attach the scanning probe to the arm, if it is detected by winrds it should be listed in pcdmis too, I recommend you to calibrate (qualify) the 15mm ball probe and check your lenght bar to ensure that the arm is in good shape before the rest of probes calibration (follow the instructions in the arm´s documentation).
  • Really greatful for everyones help. I am off for the next few days, I will have to pick this up next Monday. I will this first thing!

I attached the scanning probe to the Romer, Windrs showed it recongized the probe. When I close Windrs, PC-DMIS has no scanning probe in the 'Calibrate/edit" probe selection menu, or in the drop down menu for selecting probes... Really confused...
