Recomended settings

The setup;

Romer Infinite arm attached to a computer running windows 7 pro (sp1) 64 bit. The computer has 8GB ram and (1) 500GB hard drive and it is dedicated to only running the arm. It is attached to the company network to get step files. PCDMIS 2012 mr1

The problem;
PCDMIS crashing, some days three times in a row, sometimes it will run fine for a week.
Each time it crashes I send the crash report, there must be thirty of them by now.

Examples;
Two days ago while measuring a part, using a step file and a dozen features into the part. The program suddenly would only take points, no other features. Restart, nothing. Reboot, nothing only points. Nothing worked to fix the point problem, so I deleted the program and started over, then it was fine.
Today same thing, a half dozen features into a new program it stopped taking hits. Restart, nothing Reboot, nothing. The quickstart window blinks but the program does not accept hits.

The request;
Is there a checklist of system settings that PCDMIS needs to run that would allow everything that is not necessary to be turned off?
The company IT person is not even remotely interested in helping to solve this. So a list would be very helpfull.
Opening up the windows system configuration window shows a list of probably a hundred items, and since the crashing is random but relentless something must be creating a conflict.

Some help please.

    there are a lot of reasons why crashes could be taking place. I can't diagnose everything over the internet, but here's what i can say conclusively:

    1) you have probably inadvertently activated Point Only Mode. Look on the Probe Mode toolbar and see if it has been activated or not. You can also scroll through the checkboxes under F5 and see if Point Only Mode is activated there.

    2) consider an upgrade to PCDMIS 2013MR1 if your SMA is current. At the least, if people have been messing with your system, consider a reinstall of 2012MR1. I don't see 3x a day crashes, ever!
