Color Maps

This applies to portable as well as non-portable (or it should, anyway).

I want to turn OFF the 'dynamic shading' of the solid view in the graphics window. If I make a surface patch BLUE, I want it to stay the same color & shade of blue, no matter how I rotate the view. Same thing for making color maps from point clouds. If I need +5 and -5 colors for the color map, I want the "blue" in the legend to match the "blue" in the graphics view, NO MATTER how it is rotated. The lighter colors wash right out to NOTHING at certain angles.

NO, I don't want to change the "light source" direction since that STILL puts 'shades' of blue for a blue patch.

I want BLUE to be BLUE in any and all views, not light-med-dark-med-light blue around a radius.

  • From pcdmis 2012 MR1 and higher, the lighting settings are turned off automatic while using the colormap. You don't need to change your lighting settings. Some people are not so happy with this change, so for future versions we will make it a checkbox to enable or disable shading when a colormap is created.
