Leapfrog

What is an acceptable rms error for a leapfrog on a part?
  • What are you using to leapfrog with? Tooling balls? Reference points on the part? A general rule of thumb is no less than 4 points of reference should be used, but the more reference points you use the better the RMS solution should be. Also a factor is the size of the part, lab environment or working out in the shop floor will also have an effect. With a 6 ft arm in the lab, I can generally obtain RMS levels of .0005-.001". Hope this helps.
  • spearbc, what type of leapfrog are you doing? Are you moving the arm or the part? For us, moving the part is the only viable option. We cannot reach the datums in the second position.
