North texas

Is there anyone that works up in north Texas? I live and work near Denton TX (north of Fort Worth), and I was wondering if there were any other programmers around this area that would allow me to visit their shops. I think this is a long shot because even if you do work near by your employer might not allow visitors. but it doesn't hurt to try, I want to gain more knowledge of how other people run their CMM shop and how they go about applying their Skills weather they just use it for inspection or maybe even reverse engineering and it would be pretty neat if I found someone who uses the scanning function in their every day work.

  • I wouldn't mind visiting other places as well. I live in Alice. About 8 traffic hours south of Dallas. I have a faro arm with a laser line probe using polyworks. We use it to scan the pockets of our manufactured valves for one particular customer. This is done like once every couple of months since these valves are not sold in high volume. When I'm not busy with other work, I'll scan parts in the shop and practice with it. I've recently scanned some first article castings for engineering to review. The arm is mostly in its case.

Our 2 cmms don't have scanning capabilities but our 4 Renishaw Equators do. All work in cells where the same part number is checked over and over with no change. I spend lots of time on my offline seat trying tricks and then checking it on a CMM when they have downtime in production. I'll be attending CMM level 2 training in January in Dallas which I'm pretty excited about.

If your in my area, I would be glad to show you around our 2 shops.
  • hey that sounds great. I'm doing my best to make sure we are supplying good parts. Might be pretty neat to go and check out your facility.
