Creating scan offline

When I create a fixed distance scan offline it's empty until it's run on the part. Is there a way to emulate running the scan on the CAD model to create points to work with. With standard scans like linear open, you can generate the scan offline with the CAD model. Is there anything like that for fixed distance scan for portable?

I am scanning the full contour of a part and construction features from the hits. I want to be able to do this from home, if it comes to that. The only thing I've figured out right now is to change to a scanning probe, change to DCC mode and create a linear open scan. Then later add the fixed hit scan and use find and replace to swap them out one at a time until just the scan contains the old name, then delete it.

In case your wonder I'll be using a loop to analyze each hit to determine it's location and when I find the hits closest to the target I'm looking for create a point from that. Then on to the next point. That way the exact hit number doesn't matter, it's location based. It's a lot more to it than that, but that's the basic idea.
