Exporting Pointcloud

So I came across a Part without a CAD model, made a pointcloud, exported it out as IGES. and when I try to import it into Solidworks or even back into PC-DMIS, it is grossly slow, and sometimes when the pointcloud is huge it won't even load. Wondering if there is a trick or if you can down size it, or maybe there is a trick to exporting the pointcloud so one could create an actual good model in Solidworks or other product, that might be friendly. I have created Mesh and exported them out as STL, but these are sloppy and not as friendly, but they do load a lot easier. Any tid bits anyone have to offer? neil.challinor perhaps?

  • We never export clouds as IGES, they suck for file size, XYZ is microscopic compared to IGS, but I've never pulled it back into Pcdmis, as the points are already there, KWIM?

I'll pull it up in solidworks and see what it will do, I only put it back in DMIS, because they were both acting the same. struggling. It may be awhile before I can respond, that's on a different PC
