All those who have tried Cam2 and pcdmis in the FARO arm which one is a better and friendly user software?

Just want to know some peoples idea because we also have a DEA Gantry type CMM adn we still learning the pcdmis.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hello,
I have not had the pleasure of working with a Faro that used PS DMIS, but Cam2 is an easy software to use. Fairly stable ( when you get past the printing bug - turn auto save off). The Cam2 software does not act like the demon, but with the ability to use jpegs, you can set up screen shot pics of your part, using spheres to show where to take your points.
In short, both are good, but the Cam2 is cheaper and you get what you pay for.

  • We have both Cam 2 and PC-Dmis 4.2. The Cam 2 is very simple software to use for a novice. It does not have a lot of the features that PC-Dmis has. But for doing simple measuring it is very user friendly. But mentioned in the previous post the reporting has its limitations.

  • IMO, the cam2 dimensioning is not as flexible. When measuring a radius, you need to dimension the rad or dia right then. This is not available later. Or at least not on the version that I was using. However, for the capability studies, cam2 was cool, because when using a Faro, finding the exact location to take your point is nearly impossible. But with Cam2, there is a Home in Point option and this creates and audible tone that allows you to locate the correct location prior to taking the actual measurement. I also had the Faro set to take an auto point when it got to the location.

You're talking about SoftCheckTools (using jpegs), right?

SoftCheckTools is another add-on that you can use Cam2Measure program & add photos that show the point touches. Is that what you're talking about, or a camera capture view?
  • Hey Willy,
Ya, it was softcheck. It is an ok add on to go with the home in point or just basic measuring.
