Angle Results from 2 Auto Lines

TESA/PC-DMIS CAD 4.2 MR1 RELEASE

Using Auto Line for 2 separate edges (2 points selected for length and location of line), Test button each time, Create button each time. Back light is set to 50.6. Close button.

Select Angle Dimension, Last Two button, tol. +4/-4, nominal = 90 deg., Create button.

10 results (in degrees):

87.4, 92.6, 92.7, 92.7, 87.5, 92.6, 92.8, 87.3, 87.4, 92.7

*note: I never moved the part. I just repated the process listed above. The results were gathered within 3-5 minutes total.

No pattern seen. This is the results for the same part, which was never moved.

The angles seem to be complimentary angles because you get relatively close to 180 degrees when you add a low number and a high number or when you add the averages of the lows and the highs.

What may be going on here?
Which results might I record for my D.O.E.?
Would you take all of the small angles or all of the large anlges for your results?

Help.

  • OK, slesholdofthreep, I went and changed the Density to HIGH, Edge Selection to DOMINANT EDGE, but I didn't see the place to remove the outliers. My part is a cutting edge that is pretty well defined, so I do not think that the outliers will make that big of a difference. That said, what I am looking for is for the all angles to read around 93 deg or 86 deg. 93 deg would be preferable since the protractor (manual) gage tells me that this angle is around 93 deg.

The program is reporting my results with the complimentary angle (the low angle in this case).

    Results of my last run:

    86.472....complimentary to angle....93.528
    86.627....complimentary to angle....93.373
    86.506....complimentary to angle....93.494
    86.639....complimentary to angle....93.361
    93.622
    86.607....complimentary to angle....93.393
    93.356
    93.356
    93.424
    93.446
