Part Limitations on Optiv 321 TP

Good Morning:

We've purchased an optiv 321 TP and I have taken 101-201 vision level courses a month ago or so.

Still new to the vision world, what are limitations of the vision system? I'm told the optiv isn't the appropriate tool to check this part.

The part is shinny and round, about 8 in long 4' in diameter. It sitting on the table with the bore pointing up. Ignore the red arrow.

When I focus on a feature, say the hex side, the lens comes pretty close to the body of the part.

We thought that we could use the vision probe to check most of the part and use the touch probe for the hex distances. The entire part is being inspected with the touch probe for all measurements. There is OD's the bore ID, concentricity form the small od to the larger od, and various distances.

The issues I find is that when I focus lets say on an edge point and move along the axis, the part seems to curve around the focal point. I really don;t know if the machine needs to be bigger or a wider lens in needed or what.

Again I've only used the vision probe in training so I know that it can check flat credit card shape parts pretty well but i don't know about a 3D part.

Trying to zoom in on a rounded edge, it sometimes has trouble doing this. We use our vision for a lot of flat parts, holes, etc.
