Password Protect

Please help. How can I password protect either the programs or the PCDMIS Online. I know the PCDMIS Operator restricts editing. However there's nothing to keep the operator or anyone for that matter from opening the Online option to edit. I have version 4.1.
  • Talk to your IT guy. The problem that I see is that even in operator mode anyone can delete whole programs, whole folders, anything....What I have been doing is backing everything up on a thumb drive that only I over-write so at least I have a copy. The other thing you can do is hide the online option executable several folders deep and hope they don't have the skill to do a search for it.

you could 'upgrade' from 4.1 to v2010 or higher. These later versions give YOU the option to permit the cave-monkeys to run programs in protected mode ONLY.
this prevents them from editing the program, layout, report and in general blocks the "hey, i wonder what THIS icon does" urge from being carried out.
(a common trait in all cave-monkeys)
Protected mode has worked out quite well so far.... at least for us.
  • You could also put PCD operator mode in the startup folder for all users so PCD starts in Operator mode when someone logs in and if they try to exit operator mode it takes them to the log-in screen. I've used this for years with great success. As far as deleted programs & folders your IT should be able to set Windows up so the log-in permissions exclude deleting things.
  • PC-DMIS STI in the startup folder works as well.
  • Yeah, but depending how many seats your talking, you can only do certain things in STI from 1 computer(Station), The rest of the set up has to be done from the station your using the programs. There isn't an option to copy to the other stations. Depending on how many stations you have, It could take a long time to incorporate STI. We used it for a minute, but it was too time consuming. We have over 2500 jobs being inspected, on at least 10 machines through out the plant. We ended up going to 2010 which has some good qualities, but we also kept 3.7 for things that worked better in that software. Only the programmers use the 3.7 though.
