Pc dmis 3.7 mr1

Hello, I'm new to this forum, so any and all suggestions and help is greatly appreciated. I work during the day with pc dmis 2010 MR3. I accepted a side job not knowing that older software is being used. Now to my point.

the CMM with 3.7 is a brown and Sharp one 775 with a non motorized probing head. My question is how do I calibrate and add tips in 3.7... I have done some research and found that there is a PH9 setting where the tips go... but Im not sure how to put a change tip command in my program or how best to create and calibrate other tips needed.

thanks a bunch.
  • Go to insert-hardware definition-probe this will bring up the probe utility boxs in that there shoud be a tab to add angles. Everything you need should be in there to calibrate. hope that helps
  • I use 4.3 so I not sure how different 3.7 mr1 is from my version, also using a ph10 head too
  • What head is it? Is it a head that has repeatable indexes (locks in specific positions) or is it like a PH1, which has no locakable positions, so each time you change it, you MUST calibrate it right then.

IF it is like the PH1, your qual-tool MUST BE LEFT IN PLACE, it can not be moved all during the execution of the program.

IF it has repeatable index locations, you simply add the angles like a PH9/PH10, then in the program, you activate the tip you want. You will need to move to a clean spot to allow you to do the manual indexing of the head, then move back to continue the program.
  • Thanks Adam I will look there. @ matthew.... the head locks into a specific position, If I want to change the tip position I have to manually change it. there is a option for PH9 when I am creating my features. I read in the help file that this option has something to do with changing tip angles, and this option has to be checked if I am going to be using a angle other than A0B0. if this help you give me some more info, when I calibrate my tip PCDMIS asked me if the qual-tool has moved before it calibrates A0B0 which happens to be the only tip I am able to use currently.

thanks for you guy's input. It really helps there is a huge learning curve from 2010 and 3.7.
  • Yes that question should pop up in any version you use. Its making sure that the qual tool is where it was from the last time you calibrated if its not it won't know where it is and you wil have to re locate it
  • and I believe what matt is saying is saying is when you change the angle you will have to calibrate because you are manually changing it and it could be slightly index different from the last time (i think) and that you can't move the qual tool because then none of those angles you are calibrating too each time will have any relationship to eachother. If that makes any sense. wow I'm glad I have a motorized indexable head those programs with heads like that could take for ever just qualifiying all the time
  • On my day job I have a motorized head. This is a side job for a small company. going from full DCC CAD ++ to this has been a challenge.
