  • SQL server is a database management suite that allows you to host a database that can be accessed from any computer on your domain. Being a standard Microsoft package I've never seen IT professionals arbitrarily decide to remove it. Further more, there are about 6 different options for viewing data on another computer. You could use report viewer, you could back up the data to an XML file for just the part in question and import it on another version of Datapage, you could also just connect your database to a SQL server that is hosted on another machine and view the data remotely. Or you could export your entire database and import it on another machine. You could also detach your database from the SQL host machine and attach it on another machine.

I think that boils down to one practical method - Report Viewer. I assume that functional copies of Datapage+ are not installed on all computers where there is a chance the user *might* want to look at data at some point in the future. Options like connecting to another computer to access the database or detaching and connecting on another machine are things that most users won't bother with once they realize what is involved (and this may require IT help) plus they will need more than one copy of Datapage+ installed.

A second option would be to export the required data to a CSV or XLS file. I would be partial to this myself and just manually calculate what I need to see.

I have looked at other options such as accessing the data directly from the database. Wow, what a mess. When I saw how crazy the formatting was I was not surprised that there were so many problems with data corruption. This is not an option unless you want to invest a lot time into this.
