I had a doubt regarding suspension characteristics array of a drive axle. As far as I know, the Suspension Characteristic Array is used by ACar to define the steer axis while doing a simulation. While defining them during template building, the dialogue box asks for four 6 options, 1) Geometric or instant axis definition
2) Dependent or independent axle
3) I part
4) J part
5) I part coordinate reference
6) J part coordinate reference
I was able to understand the first two and the last two points from the online help documentation, but I could not understand the significance of I and J part for the driven axle which is supposed to be non steerable in my model, but is required by the solver when performing suspension analysis. I checked the tandem drive axle model in the shared truck database. The I and J parts have been defined as the coil spring and the trailer arm respectively, which did not make sense to me. Can anybody enlighten me on this?
