Adams Machinery/Gears

Hello,
 
When modelling a planetary gear system throught the gears machinery module, I hot an error message of massless, non-manifold solids. I assume this was referring to the carrier created by the module. I am also having trouble understanding how the carrier and planets are supposed to be defined. So far:
 
I have the sun fixed on its shaft (solid body)
The ring gear fixed on a gearbox (solid body)
The planetes as rotational and
The carrier as fixed to a shaft (solid body whose geometry is the same as an acutal carrier's minus the rods/shafts on which the planets are mounted)
 
What is the proper way to set up the planetary gear system?
Also, while I assume that the massless parts was referring to the carrier, I still need to ask, are the gear masses automatically calculated?

    Yes massless part is carrier
     
    if you want to check computed values of mass a inertia easiest way is using right click and info on generated planetary set in model tree
     
    Speaking about connection: You can prepared shaft for sun gear, carrier or ring gear, and constrained them with revolute joint to ground (think ground as housing) and then in 5. step of planetary set creation use fixed joint to connect gears to have kinematic connection or use compliant connection if needed.
     
    Another option can be using revolute joint for gears connection to ground. Think again ground as planetary set housing. And then connect shaft to generated gears with fixed connection.
     
    Speaking about carrier.
     
    You have several option:
     
    You can create planetary set. Then you can use add to part, select generated carrier part in main window and add needed geometry for carrier. To get rid of massless part issue in info window click to modify planetary set, and it several times next,next,... ok. To again recalculate mass according geometry and material.
     
    Or during proces you can manualy define mass and inertia tensor for carrier.
     
    Or you can add geometry of carrier to shaft which is connected to carrier via fixed joint.
     
    In attachment is zipped bin file example made in adams 2022.1. using shafts and fixed joints, carrier is added to carrier after planetary set creation process, planetary set housing is modeled as box with removed cylinder geometry in ground part. Ring gear is fixed to ground
