Hello everyone, I would like to open in GNS Animator 4 the result of a 4Post Testrig from Adams Car. Anyone knows if that is possible? I don't find any postprocessing output from Adams which is able to be opened in GNS Animator 4 as animation.

Hi Daniel,

As I know, the third postprocessing software (CEI Ensight) can open the result that you have.

In the Article kb8023362 you maybe find something useful.

Thank you, Zhenhui, for the answer. I tried to export the co-animation following the article you mentioned, but I get the problem:

Starting Co-animation translator...

ERROR: ---------------------------------------------------------------------

ERROR: There is more than one database object named "prefix"

, so I am not able to go forward. Anyway, thanks for the info.

ADAMS animation outputs are not supported by Animator.

Contact GNS if you want that feature.

(Which I mentioned to them some 10 or 15 years ago)

Maybe you can elaborate on what you want to accomplish, if you're open to other solutions ?

Hello Martin, thanks for the answer. I am working with Adams since few months, after many years working with FEM Softwares, so I am almost new with it. I find the postprocessing tool of Adams somehow very limited and sometimes annoying. For example, if I want to superimpose two results for 4 Post Testrig, the software goes mad when rotating, zooming..., and I am not able to do something as easy as giving a different colour for each result, what is very easy and fast at Animator.

I am analysing the influence of the parameters in the 4-Post Testrig, so it is important for me to analyze precisely the results, what Animator would be perfect for. Adams Postprocessing does not help in this way.

Well being new to something doesn't mean the desired operation is not possible in the new tool.

Asking helps.

In this case it is easily possible to overlay animations and give them different colors.

See attached screenshot.

BTW: I have to use Animator from time to time and I'd claim the same for this tool (i.e. not being intuitive or user friendly)

It all depends on what you're used to :-)

It might be that I did not express it clear enough. I do not mean it is not possible, I mean that I get many problems at doing it, so that is why I would like to use other postprocessing softwares as Animator.

See in the attachhed screenshot what happens when I overlay two simulations and try to rotate or zooming while the animations are running.

Did you read the .gra file or only the .res file?

The parts that goes and hide around the global origin are parts that are not located at the origin to start with. And for the wheels, there orientation is not 0,0,0 to start with. Rather well known problem, Try to read *only* the .res file. That might help.

Hello JSlat, thanks for trying to help me. If only read the .res file, I cannot see anything in the animation, although I can play the simulation, but there is nothing in view. If I only read the .gra file, I get the model (the result) in view and can play it (although without the body, what I understand well, because it is just geometry).

When reading just the .gra files and overlaying two models, I get that problem mentioned above: rotating and zooming while the animations are running get a madness in the view. If I stop the animation and click play again, then the view is reset and I can see both models, as long as I do not try again to rotate, zoom or translate the models in the view.

That is what I'd call a bug.

Contact your local MSC support and report it to them.

At the end you pay MSC quite some $$ for software maintenance which includes fixing these kind of bugs.

Thank you, Martin, for your answer. I am also sure that it is a bug. I showed it yesterday to our MSC partner contacts but they told me that it might be related with graphics card, the computer or something like that. But that is almost sure not the reason.

I will try to escalate this problem in MSC via emails.
