Is it possible or practically to add a Gear in Gear At on a Shaft where the Pitch Circle Diameter (PCD) is already modelled ?

My Shaft is a flexible body where the PCD is alredy modelled. Can I add a gear on that modelled PCD ? Do i have to consider anything special if that described procedure works ?

  • Hello Mr. Wagner,
it is possible and common practice to attach Gear AT element to flexible shaft or wheel body (wheel blank) - see figure below. In case one uses so called Flex Tooth approach the gear rim attached to flexible body is rigid, hence some important modes will be not excited in the system (this is important for wheels with lager diameter compared to shaft hub diameter). This limitation can be overcome by the Full Flex Gear approach.

The PCD is larger than the rim diameter so once you attached gear element to the shaft there will be overlap of volumes. You can edit mass properties of gear element (edit *.CGP property file) to ensure the aggregate mass is correct.
    Hope that helps.
