We will initially use groups for 'focused' discussions on certain topics. Groups are, by default, accessible by an invitation list. An example might be "Adams Beta Testers" where you'd only get an invite if you are a registered beta tester.
I'm not sure yet if we'll have public groups; the 'topic' and 'sub-topic' functionality in the standard community should capture most of what we want.
