What’s the best way to model a tension-only member in Dytran?

Hi, does dytran have any inbuild element which takes load only in tension? Or do I have to define this behavior in material model? Looking for simulations something like strap of seat belt.

Thanks.

  • Hi Shank,

We can model seatbelts in multiple ways using DYTRAN. Purely 1d based seatbelt model and a hybrid modelling using a combination of 1d and 2d mesh.

For 1 D belt,   Special belt elements with following characteristics are used.

Tension only nonlinear springs and mass

User defined loading and unloading belt characteristics

    Internal damping to prevent vibrations

    Pre stress / additional slack

Also a special algorithm to model contact between dummy and belt.

PBelt property card is used for the belt element referenced by CROD entry.

For Hybrid modelling use PShell with membrane properties and fabric material characteristic  for 2D shell part and PBELT for 1D part

Hope this is useful and if you require more info let me know
