Usually in Patran I will just create a point element, CONM2 and use an RBE to connect it to a mesh, but I'm unsure whether this is working in Marc/Mentat, as it is giving much lower results than my Patran run?
You can create RBE2 in Mentat. For point mass, you just define node properties as shown in the attached screenshot. Please note that concentrated mass is only used in dynamic analysis. For static analysis with gravity load, it is better to apply force (mass x acceleration) directly.
I thought that may well be the case. Is it still a good idea to apply the force on a node connected by an RBE2 to the general mesh, to simulate the effect of gravity at that point?
