VCCT 3D-Solid Problem

We're doing a simulation for crack propagation in MSC Marc using the VCCT 3D model.
Unfortunately we encountered a problem we couldn't solve until now.
The model in the attachment is the simulation of a high cycle fatigue experiment with a cyclic load and and a notch in the specimen according to SENT procedure.

When running the simulation, the model reacts to the face load but doesn't crack as it should. We couldn't figure out what the problem is.

When trying the same simulation but changing the face load to point load, the simulation gives out error 11 or 2004.

What is the problem here actually?

  • They are several problems in your model:
    1. Two contact bodies share same nodes at the interface, this is not allowed
    2. Crack front is not defined properly. There must be a crack (free element faces) there behind the crack front nodes
    3. Since your material is elastic-plastic, energy release rate, instead of stress intensity factor, should be used (stress intensity factor only works with linear elastic material)
