Can you get contact area information from your .t16 simulation?

I am wondering in the way to get information about the contact area between a gear teeth.

I have information from nodes in contact, such as displacement and contact normal forces. However, I would like to know the area, to compare with analytical results.

Hi Aurea,

Starting from 2017, Marc does output contact area, and you can plot it using history plot as shown in attached image.

I am using 2019 version and unfortunately I cannot find Contact area variable.

I attach the figure with the variables availabe (moment, forces...)

Should I choose any special output so that contact area is calculated?

By the way, I didn't know about this option, si I calculated Contact Normal Force in determined nodes, is there a diference between that and the value shown by "Normal Force on first body by second body"?

I guess, the second one is an addition of all the contact normal forces of all the nodes in contact in my model, am I right?

Hi Aurea,

Contact area output is available only for segment to segment contact. There is no additional output request needed.

Normal force on first by second is the resultant of conact normal forces at all the nodes. Contact normal force output is avaialable at all the contact nodes.

I changed my contact type to check if I can get thisoutput.

Which is the index I should use or the methodology to be used if I want to extract this information automatically from .t16 file and a python code?
