How to create zero-thickness (cohesive) elements?

Cohes
The picture above is taken from the user's guide of Marc-Mentat 2021.1 (e022). As you can see from the picture, the cohesive part has the same mesh with top part. How can I create these zero-thickness elements between two sets of elements?

Note: I know how to define geometric and material properties. I just don't know how to create zero-thickness elements.

  • Hi,

I believe you want to create a surface mesh from a solid mesh, This can be achieved as follows,

    1. Navigate to Geometry & Mesh tab > Convert
    2. Select convert Faces to Elements
    3. Under selection you can use face flood and pick any one element face of solid mesh to easily pick all element faces and then end selection, you must be able to get a surface mesh identical to solid mesh face.
    4. Later you can translate this layer if you want and assign geometric properties etc..
