Can I do remeshing in Marc mentat?

If yes, a small example would help.

  • Hello Shank,

    Greetings of the day.

Yes, you can definitely do remeshing in Marc/Mentat. Marc has two types of remeshing available through the Mentat interface: Global Remeshing and Local Adaptivity.

Global Remeshing involves replacing the mesh of a whole body or part of a body with a new mesh. This can be done at the start or during the analysis.

Local Adaptivity (also known as mesh refinement) involves subdividing existing elements into smaller elements, increasing the number of elements and nodes locally. This is done during the analysis based on multiple criteria to improve the accuracy of the solution in specific areas

Both global remeshing and local adaptivity serve the purpose of improving the accuracy of finite element analyses, especially when dealing with large deformations, stress concentrations, or contact interactions. They also can be used to save computational cost by strategically refining the mesh only where needed.
