I've added a flange surface to a composite part by creating the geometry and stitching it in Apex. The flange is an attempt to strengthen an existing feature in the part. The existing composite panel has 2 zones - one with 5 layers, the other with 10. After adding the surface and stitching it, Apex recognizes it as part of the composite panel. However, it didn't assign the new real estate to either existing zone. Instead, it shows it as a new, empty zone. That's fine but it looks like I will have to go ply-by-ply and edit the Coverage Areas for each ply to include the new surface as appropriate. Not a big deal for a single part with a small number of plies. But I've got 8 parts/panels, each with two zones, one of which (the applicable one) with 10 plies.
Seems like there should be a way to edit a Zone (i.e. add or remove applicable surfaces) kind of like what we can do ply-by-ply.
If there is a way to add a new surface to an existing zone, please share. Otherwise, we should add this to our enhancement requests.
This is an excellent enhancement request. You can request this directly from within Apex via Help : Feedback : Enhancement Request
A new feature coming in a future release (not sure which) is the ability to define a re-usable ply stack. my guess is that the zone coverage of a ply stack could be edited one time rather than ply by ply
