How to refine the mesh on hotspot locations?

I have 2 hotspots of interest in my model that I would like to refine the mesh a bit on. How can I do this with a 3D part in Apex?

I believe in all fem programs not geometry is important for solver but nodes and elements. We can have nodes and elements created directly without any geometry. I believe apex is same
