welding modelling between beams

Nastran has special element types for modelling welds. eg. cweld, cfast, cseam. I believe in general as a good engineering practice no one models the weld between two beam elements, it has to be between two surfaces or solids. Also analyst must have focused to analyse weld strengths.
Contrary rigid links in Apex, generates RBAR elements, which are one of the rigid elements. Those are not exactly replacement for weld modelling.
