Liquid FSI co-simulation functionality allows you to use co-simulation system for structural-liquid flow FSI problems.
In Marc-scFLOW co-simulation with CoSim 2024.1, structure-airflow type co-simulation is successfully simulated with MSC CoSim.
However, liquid flow-structure coupling problems are difficult to solve because of the following two reasons:
- The incompressibility constraint causes drastic pressure to change due to coupling interface velocity. Compressible air flow FSI problems are not suffered with this difficulty.
- Solving high mass density problems due to strong interaction between coupling interface velocity and pressure.
Dynamic pressure term treatment is the one of major root causes:
P = 1/2*ρ*(Vf − Vs)^2
ρ = Mass density
Vf = Fluid velocity
Vs = Structure velocity
In order to resolve these difficulties, implementation of the key functionalities of stable incompressibility treatment in CFD, pressure stabilization logic in structure part and iteration scheme that minimizes the nodal force/displacement error at coupling interface have been accomplished.
Some examples of the problems that can be solved using this new capability are as follows:
- A water flow - structure interactions
- Elephant foot buckling
- Blood flow through blood vessel
