Modeling geometric imperfections on a FE model.

Hello,

Is it possible to supply scale factors corresponding to the scaled shapes of each SOL 105 mode so as to introduce geometric imperfections to the FEM?

I know of the long ended way of doing this using MSC.Patran (using fields) to perturb the model, but I'm curious to know if this can be done within the confines of NASTRAN (SOL400 or SOL600).

Pl. let me know?

Vijay
  • Sorry for the long delay in replying to your post.   I'm glad you are already aware of how to do this 'manually' with Patran.  I have had a lot of success using that approach.

As far as any automatic means to do this, SOL600 has the capability, but SOL400 does not.  In SOL600, it requires using the MARCIN command to define some Marc commands directly.   I am not aware of any examples showing it working.

Of course, this can be done directly in Marc.  There is an example in the Marc manual- VOL E (example 4.12).

Here is the single slide from the old SOL600 course notes.
