Is it possible you are being asked to perform a modal analysis with loading, such as a transient response or frequency response analysis? If so, then the modal damping becomes involved.
But for Real Eigensolutions, modal damping is always ignored. If you do need to include damping in the eigensolution, then you need to do a Complex Eigensolution. See the Dynamic Analysis User Guide for detailed information (Chapter 14):
