How to use MATSMA in structural analysis for shape memory alloys?

Hello,
I am trying a 2D structural analysis for shape memory alloys. So I think I will use “MATSMA”, which is a material property for shape memory alloys.
Would you know any tutorial or examples about shape memory alloys in Nastran2019?

I already read a course note below. However, I didn’t understand how to use the property, especially which material properties should I set with MATSMA. Should I set MAT1, MAT4, or MATEP with MATSMA?

Thank you
  • Attached an example of MATSMA. MATSMA is independent of other MAT entries, so should not be mixed with other MAT Id's.

    6. The material identification number must be unique for all COHESIV, MAT1, MAT2, MAT3, MAT8, MATDIGI, MATG, MATHE, MATHP, MATNLE, MATORT, MATPE1, MATSMA, MATUSR, MCOHE, MIXTURE, and MATD* entries.

Make sure you have the nonlinear property extensions for the properties.
    5. In SOL 400, MATSMA is only supported for nonlinear elements with property extensions, PBARN1, PBEMN1, PRODN1, PSHEARN, PSHLN1, PSHLN2 and PSLDN1 respectively. Note that, prior to MSC Nastran 2010, if the property extensions were missing, then the analysis would stop with an error. From MSC Nastran 2010 onwards, if the property extensions are missing, they are automatically added with appropriate settings by the program unless the user has set NLMOPTS,SPROPMAP,-1 in the bulk data.

  • Hi, phadke. It’s been a while.

Thank you for your comment and sample program.
I will try the analysis with your advice!

    Thank you very much.
