Diagnose stalled analysis.

I have a large (~8 million DOF) model that I need to run static and modal solutions on. My first attempts have reached the point of applying external loads for the static case and, completing the solution for modes for the modal analysis. At this point, the analysis appears to stall (the analysis process is running although there are no further writes to the disk), are there are no error messages in the f06 file. There is plenty of scratch space allocated for SCRATCH and SCRATCH300, and no problems with disk space either. The f04 file does show spill to disk although that should not stop the analysis from running.
  • Hi Derek, what version of Nastran are you running and on what machine/OS? how long has it appeared to stall? Can you send the last several lines of the f04? If it is in the data recovery stage, it can take a while on a large model.

  • The version of NASTRAN is 2013.1
I dont have much information on the server running NASTRAN although it is an HP system running UNIX.
Here is an exerpt from the f04 file for the static analysis, nothing else was written for >24 hours before I terminated the run:

  • Derek, I'll open a support case and we can take this conversation over to that path... we can update this thread once we have a resolution!
  • Don,

Thanks for all the help. I can get even my random analyses cases through now.
  • Glad all worked out! Just for others reading this, in the end, this was a resourse issue and memory/smem/etc settings specific to the user environment/ job took care of the problem.
