Bring old ANSYS model into NASTRAN

I'm trying to load an old model originally created in ANSYS to modern versions of Nastran/Patran. The model was run in ansys - but has the .inp file type normally associated with abaqus. Is there a decent converter I can use to convert these to a bdf so that I can work with them in Patran?

I found a couple web-based converters, but since I'm looking at proprietary data I don't think it's a good idea to use them...

You may be able to import the model into Patran directly. Change to the Ansys preference: Preferences/Analysis, then set Analysis Code to ANSYS 5. (If you don't have that option, it means you'll have to install the Ansys preference using the Patran installer.)

Then in the Analysis form, select Read Input File:

Note that not all Ansys input file entries are supported, but this should import at least the basics. Once the model is in, change back to the Nastran preference, making sure to switch on Mapping Functions on the preference form:

Again there is potential for imperfect translation in this stage, but hopefully it will give you enough to work with. Depending on how well the model translates, it may also be worth trying the Legacy Mapping option on the form above.
