Is there a max scratch disk size limit (set by some parameter) or is it simply the available unused space on the target scratch drive?

I'm running a large sol 111 for a random response analysis (nastran+patran).
Windows 10 os.
solve=auto

I'm getting the fatal msg 1250 (BIOWRT) and the msg "There is not enough space on the disk. The culprit appears to be the scratch file which is correctly directed to the intended scratch directory.

My scratch directory sits on an empty 1 TB HDD. After the long run fails and exits, many of the scratch files are deleted, some remain. Those remaining only take up a couple hundred GB and I can't see or find a history of available space that might have been very very small overnight.

So my question is this - Is the scratch space size limited only by the empty space by default OR is there possibly some parameter that says to limit the max scratch to some value, which may be much smaller than my 1 TB of empty space?
