I created a linear FE model and I ran it with SOL400 with NLTRAN, the model converged. I do not understand how the model converged if I ran a non linear analysis? I also turned off the large displacement.
Linear problems form a subset of nonlinear problems, so linear problems can be solved using non-linear analysis. The generalized alpha operator integration method is unconditionally stable so the method should be ok. I suggest you read about the time integration operators in the sol400 user's guide.
I converted the test 21T from the verification guide to SOL400 and the results compare well with the SOL109 result. The model is attached.
