Mesh refinement accoring to formula

Dear all,

Is it possible to do a mesh refinement after parts have been meshed?

Or is it best way to make a seperate surface in CAD beforehand?

I would like to add a polynom to a certain selection for the mesh. So in fact a refinement according to my own specification. Is this possible in Patran?

There are several tools in patran for mesh refinement.

Create.. Mesh...OnMesh to refine the existing mesh in localized areas.

Modify Mesh (Smoothing option)

There is functional Mesh seeding control also allowed. More info on this can be found at

Regarding this topic. If I have managed to refine the mesh according my formula. I would like to list the nodenumbers and renumber them according my own specification.

Is this possible?

In Ansys there is a way to do a spherical refinement for the mesh.

Is this option also available in Patran? For example select a node and with a radius of x mm

from that point a sphere is created in which all elements will be refined to your specified mesh. The drawback of mesh on mesh is that it does not re-mesh the surroundig elements so you get elements which are not connected to the surrounding elements. Is there a workaround for this?

Patran does not have option to refine a volume of mesh around a specified location. Other feature based meshing techniques are available.
