I know this is an old question but I just want to make sure I have the most current information on it. I'd like to be able to post process fringe plot the SRCOMPS that I'm having Nastran calculate just like I can the Failure Indices (i.e. Tsai-Wu). The only advice that I have found thus far is that Patran cannot plot SRCOMPS like it can FI and so I have to note an offending element number and then dig into the F06 to find its correlating SR. I'm a fan of things "old school" but this is a bit much for me in 2018 and FEMAP (which I don't have) does plot SRCOMPS if requested.
So, can we now plot SRCOMPS in Patran just like FI's or not? Is there a workaround or alter that can get this done?
Yes, Patran can plot SRCOMPS, providing you're using one of the newer Nastran results formats (MASTER/DBALL, New OP2, or HDF5). Otherwise I think it can be done with an alter.
Thanks Darrel & Sanjay. Maybe I've got something else amiss. All I see available to me are Failure Indices. I'm using Patran 2017.0.2, Nastran 2017.1. I have tried all the output formats you've suggested, the latest being HDF5. I do still have to request the SRCOMPS right? (I'm doing so with PARAM, SRCOMPS, YES) Any hints/thoughts you may have are much appreciated. I feel better knowing what I need is out there just not yet in my grasp.
Thanks Sanjay. I still must have something not right on my model. I took your Patran .db file, opened it, ran it, then attached the results and I do see the SRs available, in addition to the FIs. But, my own model does not show post-able SRs, only FIs. I've even got the "PARAM SRCOMPS YES" in my bdf and the resulting f06 has both FIs and SRs. Any thoughts?
Can I send the model to you to investigate and tell me what's wrong? Or, should I create a support case and go that route? Or is there a portion of my bdf that I could screenshot that you could look at? The model I have is a client model so I want to be careful where and to whom I send it.
(fyi, I have not tried the alter because I shouldn't need it given the versions that I'm using)
Are you still using HDF5 in your model? It turns out that SRCOMPS output is not yet supported properly for HDF5, so you'll have to stick to New OP2 (as in Sanjay's example file) or MASTER/DBALL. Sorry for the confusion.
Thanks Darrel. Yes, I am using the new OP2. I have filed a support case separately so I can exchange files and such officially. I'll circle back to this forum with my resolution when we reach one.
