I just learned that the Max Combined Stress is just combined Axial and Bending Stress. Do Patran has a way to combine all of axial, bending and torsion shear?

  • Hi,

You are likely referring to BAR or BEAM element stress output.

For BAR elements stress ouput in nastran is decoupled into AXIAL and BENDING stresses. There is no Shear Stress component.

So when you read the result file into PATRAN you would see under the quick plot .. Select Fringe Result window

    1. Bar Stresses, Axial
    2. Bar Stresses, Bending
    3. Bar Stresses, Maximium Combined
    4. Bar Stresses, Minimum Combined

For BEAM element s only combined stress output is available and you would only see

    Beam Stresses, Combined
    Beam Stresses, Maximum Combined
    Beam Stresses, Minimum Combined

    I hope this helps.
