I'm addressing your follow up question to Sanjay Patel from the Nastran forum here since it pertains to Patran.
You asked:
"Final question: When will PATRAN 2019 FP1 be out? Or is it currently available?"
Answer: Patran 2019 FP1 is not yet available, but it will be released very soon.
Dave and Jason,
I will echo what Sanjay Patel wrote in the Nastran forum when he said that we would like to think that all our versions are stable, although issues do come up time from to time. If and when they do, MSC provides a mechanism for clients to address them via tech support and a well-defined development process. You should also be aware that we publish the errors corrected for each release of Patran. I would ask you to refer to it to make your judgment. These can be found at:
Patran 2019 FP1 is now released and still unusable under Linux:
- Fonts and symbols are much too small, changes to the configuration files have no effect;
- Printers cannot be set up. Only the useless standard PDF printer is available;
- the install routine still suggests Netscape as default browser and the help system tries to call it (despite "Firefox" in the setup file). Absolutely ridiculous.
So much for "least bugs". Under Windows it might be different but that doesn't help me.
My models are too big and windows is much too slow.
