Folder selection using ui_file_create

I would like to select a folder PCL methods, I have used "ui_file_create" but its selecting only the files. Please suggest a method to select the folder.

Hi,

you use the ui_file_create and query it for the directory the files are currently listed for, rather than the file selected. e.g:

ui_wid_get( file_select_wdgt, "DIRECTORY", dirname )

Hi,

Thanks Arthur, But this method works only if there any files in the folder. File dialog is accepting only the file names and I am not able to select the folder in the window.

Hi,

I am uncertain what you mean,

I attach a test function you can compile and run. (not very elegant but serves as an example).

I have a folder with no files in it called "Empty_folder"

I double click this so it becomes the "look in " folder and you see no files listed.

Then clicking the "OK" button retrieves the folder name, dumps it out and writes it to the Selected Directory text box.

I was running that in the new Patran 2017,

I have tested the script in PATRAN 2013 & 2017 and its not providing the empty folder name. Please suggest.

Note: I reran my test in Patran versions 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017 and it worked similarly in each.

You must open the folder(double click) so that it becomes the "Look in:" directory (not just highlighted in the list view, single click) and its content (nothing if empty) is listed.

, please send me the session file output from when you do the !!... onward

it should look something like:

!!LIB ADD ajh_multifile_select.plb

ui_exec_function("ajh_testfile","display")

$# STRING dirname[2000] = "D:\e1088\work\PCL\ajh\ajh_multifile_select\"

Note this last $# comment si the output from hitting the OK button on the test form.

Also what system/OS are you running? Use my direct email if you prefer.

I need to see the error you are getting in as much detail as possible.

It's working fine when I place the plb file in PATRAN installation directory. Previously I was accesing it from working directory.

Yes, depending on how you start Patran the working directory may not be what you think it is. If running from an icon then setting the "Start in:" value will control that.

I always add my libraries after explicitly setting the path to where they are with a !!PATH so for this test I have

!!PATH ADD D:\myfoldertree\ajh_multifile_select\x64

!!LIB ADD ajh_multifile_select.plb

where the folder x64 contains the plb,

As long as Patran can see the PLB it shouldn't matter where it is.

you can check the folders in the PATH list with the directive:

!!PATH

and similarly the plbs that Patran is currently using can be shown with

!!LIB

to show the functions inside a plb you can list them with a command like:

!!LIB list ajh_multifile_select.plb

this also shows Patran can find and read the plb.

PS If the plb is in Patran's start in working directory then it would be found, but better to explicitly add the folder it is in to the PATH list.
