I have only OJT for CMM programming (and everything else), no formal education/credentials. I plan on testing for a ASQ QA/QC Tech certificate in the fall/winter. Other than that, I have no idea what I can do to help myself get a "leg-up" in this field. I would like to advance in it, though, since I have found I enjoy it and I'm pretty decent at it so far. So, any career advice?
Get into GD&T and also get into design. Some electrical experience (including logic i.e. PLC) would be good as well. Our future is automation. If you don't go that route you can always be a paper pusher that deals with quality engineering from an analysis ans systems perspective rather than a process perspective. As much as I do that now I hate it but it can be a valuable skill as well.
