Disabled Blog Feature & Moderation changes

I've disabled the blog feature of this website.

I'd thought we would give this new feature in the latest major version of the forum software a try. The last however-many-posts-fit-on-the-first-page where all questions that should really be posted in the correct forum thread. I wasn't sure what to expect for blog usage, but diluting the forum isn't something that is 'good' in my books.

I am also working on some configurations that should help keep the 'trolls' from clogging up our forum. I will be creating a couple of different user groups so the admins can better manage users by putting them in different groups. Some of the groups will be moderated. This would be the first time we do preemptive post moderation to my knowledge. All current users will remain in the current, un-moderated group.

New sign-ups can be 'quarantined' in a moderated user group until deemed non-troll in behavior. This, unfortunately, will slow down the posts of new people, who are coming here with immediate problems. This really does not sit well with me as they will not have quick access to the expertise found in the members of this forum, but I can find no other technical method to address the fly-by-night trolls who create 'disposable' accounts to harass other members with.

If I do things right, you shouldn't notice any changes (unless you do trolloc things of course). These changes may get turned on and off as needed without notice in the future.

  • any way ( other than rep ) to note folks that give bad info, wrong info or info that doesnt fit the scenario? I realize I offer up a ton of crap at times but you will NEVER crash a machine, or kill someone, with my suggestions.

I've not found a way to do this using the current forum software. I have found some other software packages that will give us such a feature set, but that would mean scrapping the forum.

Have you seen a vBulliten website that has the features you are referencing?

We don't currently have a formal, in software, 'rep' system - just a post count. Somebody who does a good job answering questions gets the same treatment as somebody who runs their mouth.
