Exporting CMM Programs

Hello Comrades,
Need your help as usual. I have a situation to handle, but I’m not sure how ..
I have a co-worker who is NOT a programmer; I guess he used to be on operator. The problem is that he likes to play with the CMM programs because he has no clue of what’s going on. How would you handle this?? Thru e-mail or verbally to the boss

  • Not to be the devils advocate, but maybe he is simply exhibiting the desire to learn something new. I would go about it differently though if I were in his/her situation. I had a job once that experienced a slow-down and I didn't feel like programming so I spent three days teaching myself Microsoft Powerpoint and I learned it well. Maybe let him play around with some "dummy" programs and let the person know that if they are ever caught playing with the "active" programs your foot is going into their ****. Just my fifth of a peso.

    Very good point. I would still have the discussion as I mentioned earlier and make sure he understands the importance of not changing proven programs and ask him why he is changing them. He could make a copy in another location and tinker with that, but I would still be concerned he might crash the machine. But if the desire to learn is his reason for this and he shows promise, send him out for training. It can be hard to find motivated people sometimes.
