I work for a small size company as an inspector and having been programming CMM with PC-DMIS 2016 for about 1 year. The pay is not that good (under $20 per hr in Bay Area, CA) probably because I dont have too much experiences (i can make a program for inspecting complex parts tho). Is PC-DMIS programmer in high demand, especially in CA and does it pay well? Is this a good career to continue with?
In the employment apps (Linked In, Indeed, Zip Recruiter) I see job posting in the Boston, MA area starting at 80 to 120K. I just say one for an expert CMM programmer (contract) for 50 an hour. The money is out there if you know enough and get in the right company you are golden. I am searching almost everyday for a better opportunity but I am also happy where I'm at (for now). I do feel like I am worth more than I make but I also know I'm safe where I'm at. Its nice to not have to take a job because its there and continue to search until I find the right fit.

I feel the much higher paying roles/assignments are at the expense of tenure.
--They lure you with high pay, you produce x number of repeatable work-of-art routines, then, the employer dismisses you as soon as you are done.
